Golf is Big Business in WNC

Your comprehensive list of golf courses in WNC.There’s nothing like playing a round of golf at high elevation to quicken the blood and make you feel alive. Golf courses in Asheville and Western North Carolina have attitude, as well as altitude, challenging golfers in the most gorgeous of settings. More than that, local golf courses mean big business for their communities.
Our selection of public, semi-private, and private courses attract not only local players, but golf greats from all over the world. The golf course at Omni Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa alone has been played by golf immortals Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, and Byron Nelson, as well as other PGA stars like Doug Sanders, Gene Littler, Fuzzy Zoeller, and Chip Beck since it opened in 1926. And the Reems Creek Golf Club was designed by Hawtree & Sons, a British firm that worked on Royal Birkdale, a course that’s in the British Open rotation. With reputations like that, it’s no wonder Condé Nast Traveler Magazine included local courses on its list of “Top 20 Southern U.S. Golf Resorts.”
Local courses offer opportunities for nearby and related businesses to thrive, as well. Several historic courses have undergone considerable upgrades in recent years, adding job opportunities and millions of investment dollars into our area. In the early 2000s, the Grove Park Inn invested $2.5 million to restore its course in a manner that designer Donald Ross would approve. The course at the Biltmore Forest Country Club also recently underwent a $2.5-million restoration, accompanied by an $8.5-million renovation of the clubhouse, bringing both back to their 1922 splendor.
