Woodfin is Truly One of a Kind

Did you know that Woodfin is the only such-named community in the United States?

Although Woodfin was incorporated in 1971, the community (and many of the 6,100 residents within it) can trace its roots back to the mid-nineteenth century. Today, Woodfin is a quiet community where neighbors still take the time to know one another. In fact, the Town of Woodfin is one of the safest cities in North Carolina.

Woodfin’s history is wrapped up in manufacturing, but its future is centered around the duality of outdoor escapes and emerging technology. The community hugs the French Broad River, making whitewater adventures a draw for residents and tourists alike. Woodfin River Park is also a great place for fishing, kayaking, or family fun.

On the other side of the coin, AvL Technologies is one of the fastest growing businesses in Buncombe County. In addition to working to bring more high-tech jobs to WNC, the company specializes in the design, development, and production of mobile satellite antennas and positioner systems. Their 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is located adjacent to Reynolds Village.

Reynolds Village is a recently-constructed neighborhood of local shopping, dining, and other service-related businesses. Tree-lined streets, free parking, and fun community events make Reynolds Village an interesting spot to visit throughout the year.

History lovers will enjoy the iconic Reynolds Mansion Bed & Breakfast Inn. The landmark was built in 1847 by Daniel Reynolds in the Colonial Revival style and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of few pre-Civil War homes remaining in the region.

The Woodfin Library Trail is another innovative way for citizens to interact, engage, and explore the community. The Library Trail is a network of small, free lending libraries placed around town. These locations provide adults and children with access to books regardless of their ability to get to one of Buncombe County’s public libraries.

Craggy Mountain Line is a nonprofit organization that has acquired the last three miles of the Craggy Mountain line, an historic section of railroad in Woodfin. The line has been preserved in an operable state and it is open to the public. Take a ride on historic railroad equipment that has been restored to its original condition for display and use on the line.
