\"WickedAfter less than four years in business, Asheville\u2019s rapidly-growing Wicked Weed Brewing recently announced plans<\/a> to begin distribution in Colorado this week. As one of the most distinctive beer markets in the nation, a move into the Centennial State marks a strategic expansion of their unique brand to specialty beer aficionados.
\nColorado is no stranger to Wicked Weed beers. The brewery has won multiple medals at the Great American Beer Festival<\/a>, held in Denver each fall. They received the gold medal for 100% Brettanomyces Serenity in 2013 and Mompara Honey Ale in 2014, as well as the silver medal for Pernicious IPA in 2015.
\nIn order to properly launch their product sales to the Colorado market, the brewery is hosting tap takeover events throughout the state. They will showcase Wicked Weed\u2019s sour and mixed-culture farmhouse ales like the World Beer Cup<\/a>-winning Angel series. The brewery reports that 80% of beers entering the market will be from their sour program, with the remaining product including more hoppy offerings from their production facility.
\nWicked Weed\u2019s announcement makes them the first Asheville-grown brewery to expand their beer sales west of the Mississippi River. Asheville\u2019s longest running brewery, Highland Brewing (founded in 1994), has distributors across<\/a> the Southeast and into the Midwest.<\/p>\n

Wicked Weed<\/a> was founded in December 2012 and now employs over 200 people. The brewery aims to become one of the leading producers of barrel-aged sour and wild beers in the Southeast, and are racing quickly toward that goal. They currently have three locations: their original brewpub in the heart of downtown Asheville, the Funkatorium on the South Slope, and a 50-barrel production brewery in West Asheville. An additional brewery and barrel house dedicated to sour and wild beers is slated to open in South Asheville this fall.
